Retiree Stories
Debbie & Gord LeMay
Newcomer 2002, Algonquin Park, Ontario
In July 2001, my fiancé & I decided on a trip to the Yukon
via Vancouver. It was my first time in B.C. though Gord had first journeyed
to Campbell River in 1992. We were impressed so much we came back to B.C.
on two other trips. We lived in a beautiful area of Ontario, on the shores
of a large lake just outside Algonquin Park. We had wanted to make a move,
and looked at the East Coast, the Ottawa area, etc. but decided the only
place that could compare would be B.C. (Vancouver Island in particular).
Once
we returned from the Yukon (we were married in Dawson City) we decided
to make the move to B.C. and scheduled a trip to Vancouver Island in September
2001. We looked at all the main centers on the Island, and for one reason
or another, ruled them out. When we arrived in Campbell River, it somehow
felt right. All the people we met were very friendly, helpful and went
out of their way to help us enjoy our stay. When we returned in March
2002 to find a place to rent we felt comfortable in Campbell River and
the community spirit was very evident. This was important to us as we
were looking for a place where we could really get involved in the community.
As well, we love the endless choice of outdoor activities available within
a short distance. We have done and seen a lot since arriving, but we know
we haven' t even scratched the surface....that's the beauty of living
in Campbell River; great people, great location for the outdoors enthusiast;
great town!
