Leslie Lloyd decided that Campbell River, B.C. is where she wants to spend the rest of her life. She moved here in 2001 because the geographic location, the size, services and the culture of the town provide just the lifestyle she wants. Ms. Lloyd grew up in Langley where she would spend her summer days at the beach. She developed a love of the ocean. After moving to Kamloops and living there for twenty-five years, she felt a need to be back near the water and the moist climate. This was the main draw for Ms. Lloyd, but the geographic situation of Campbell River had many other good qualities. "It's not just the recreation, it's the exploration," she said, referring to the fact that different environments and communities are just ten minute ferry rides away (Quadra and Cortez) and driving twenty minutes in any direction usually takes you to a wild world of natural beauty that can only be found in BC, like the Elk Falls area, and Strathcona Park. The size and services of CR were important in Leslie's decision. She values a simple life and finds that in Campbell River she can live one without being deprived of the choices and amenities offered by a bigger city. She feels that it is a very safe environment for her retirement and for her thirteen year old son to grow up in. The town has all the shopping, hospital, and recreation resources she needs. Culture is very important to Campbell River and to Leslie. She loves the fact there is live theatre here at the Tidemark, "That's something that's not usually found in a small town, and yet it is very strong and well developed in Campbell River." It means a lot to her that there is more than just electronic entertainment. She also loves the Museum, which allows the public to really feel the history of Campbell River, from the days of the first pioneers to the destruction of Ripple Rock. There is also a wide variety of unique ethnic restaurants here, not just fast food. Leslie has lived here for a year and a half and feels that there is a great deal more for her to explore. She looks forward to her retirement in Campbell River.
