Why Retire Here
Size
The population of Campbell River is approximately 31,000. It's big enough
to be business-like and small enough to maintain a friendly atmosphere.
Campbell River is a shopping and service centre for communities to the
West, East and North. It's big enough to have all the major shopping and
medical conveniences required by most
retirees without the congestion and pollution found in large urban centres.
Larger
cities tend to break down into smaller neighborhoods and regions where
the population is commonly in the 31,000 neighborhood range. We’re
already there. Campbell River’s central core is fairly condensed,
creating a village-like atmosphere where the major retail outlets, banks,
hotels and restaurants are all within walking distance. Check out Big
Mike's story in Perspectives.
You
will find everything from chain stores to theater chains in this core.
Schools, colleges and churches are located in residential areas away from
the central core and all are served by a city-wide transit system. Industry
is concentrated on the North side of the city and in the Industrial Park
while residential areas tend to occupy the West and South of the city
center.
